Why Muslims do charity?

Why Muslims do charity or why it’s so important to donate charity as a Muslim in Islam or why as a Muslim one should focus on doing Charity? And why we feel so happy? After giving: these are the few thoughts we will look at in this article in more detail.

Here are the demonstrations why giving Charity/ Sadaqah, Voluntary Charity on a regular basis is advantageous

Charity/ Sadaqah; A Profit after death

The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said: ‘When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Charity/ Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous charity), knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him’. [Muslim]

Charity/Sadaqah;  An Investment with extraordinary return in hereafter.

Its Allah promises that he will increase our wealth and sustenance and provide us success in this life and the hereafter as a return of Charity/ Sadaqah. By donating Sadaqah/ Charity frequently we are doing investment in this life and the hereafter in sha Allah.

Charity/ Sadaqah; Elimination of Sins

The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said, ‘Charity extinguishes the sins like water extinguishes a fire’. [Ibn Majah]

The amount of Charity you give can be as small as ‘half a date’ [Bukhari], but if you give it with a sincere intention, it can still remove your sins and protect you from the Fire.

Sadaqah Baab As-Sadaqah; A Gate of Jannah

But those who feared their Lord will be driven to Paradise in groups until, when they reach it while its gates have been opened and its keepers say, “Peace be upon you; you have become pure; so enter it to abide eternally therein.” [Noble Quran, 39:73]

Baab As-Sadaqah is considered as one of the eight gates of Jannah. This door only let those in who were charitable and gave Charity/Sadaqah in the way of Allah, whether to their parents, orphans, widows, the sick or any other person in need. Donating Charity/ Sadaqah helps us  to enter Paradise by passing through this gate.

Charity/ Sadaqah; will be your shade on Doomsday

Every time we donate charity which eliminates someone’s adversity, Allah rewards us for your compassion by removing one of our adversities in the hereafter life:

Charity/ Sadaqah; Cleanses the Nafs

Our purpose in life is to strive in the way of Allah through worship and good deeds to attain righteousness, and one of the best ways to attain righteousness is by spending for the sake of Allah. Our wealth is a trial from Allah and can even be a overload as we are responsible for how we spend it. We should allocate on charity to abstain from worldly desires and attain the repay of the Hereafter.

Charity/ Sadaqah; plays a role in acceptance of Dua

We can make duas to Allah by virtue of our good deeds including the Charity/Sadaqah we donate. An illustration of this is the Sahih Hadith narrated in Muslim and Bukhari, about the 3 people who arrived in a cave, and a rock fell and blocked their exit. They asked Allah by the virtue of their best deed to save them. Each of the men made dua to Allah naming a good deed they had done sincerely to seek His pleasure and Allah shifted the rock and released them from the cave

Charity/ Sadaqah delivers balanced society

The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said: ‘Your smile for your brother is a Charity. Your removal of stones, thorns or bones from the paths of people is a Charity. Your guidance of a person who is lost is a Charity’. [Bukhari].

Charity/Sadaqah is about supporting and helping the whole community and looking after the weak and needy for the up gradation of society.

Charity/ Sadaqah; will satisfy wants and needs

It is a basic and natural human instinct to want more and more for his or her own benefits and luxuries in life and this is mostly directly related to being less kind. However, it’s very important to remind ourselves that we don’t take care of our own needs and wants – Allah does everything for us.

And while we plane for our future security; we should also have faith that Allah will satisfy all of our needs. We should strive to serve for Allah sake without acting selfishly or short-sighted.

Ultimately, by accomplishing the needs of our brothers and sisters in need, Allah also takes care of our needs. By donating regularly to needy, we can help change the lives of the most vulnerable and needy people around the globe.

Charity/ Sadaqah; eases trial and removes adversities

Being Muslim we have faith that life is a test and Allah sometimes test us through calamities. Therefore, donating Sadaqah during a time of adversity provides strong iman and gratitude to Allah and it is only He, with His infinite mercy that can transform a people’s situation,

‘Allah removes what He wishes and establishes what He wishes, for He has the Mother of Books’. [13: 39]

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said ‘Give the Sadaqah without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.’ (Tirmidhi)
